Artist Statement
I have always considered myself a traveler. There is something cathartic
about experiencing diverse cultures around the world. What makes
that experience the most beneficial is how these locations, each unique,
connect with the tactile, visual, auditory, and in some cases the olfactory. These
are the elements of the experience that place us in the moment; however,
they are only fleeting components of that larger experience. My work
is based on the nature that these experiences over time do erode the further
we disassociate ourselves from the instant or moment. Through the
eyes of a tourist in a foreign land I take snapshots which are further
abstracted by a process-oriented digital transfer on plexi-glass. The
process mimics the loss of these experiences on a number of levels as one
becomes further removed from the actual event.
DIGITAL IMAGE TRANSFER

DETAIL OF ASSEMBLY
2 (18 x 24”) plexi-glass pieces, each ¼” thickness,
are joined by aluminum screws with spacers creating a ½” space
between the two pieces of plexi-glass. The image area consists of
a digital image, transferred with an acrylic gel medium onto the glass
and
are 17 x 11”. Both pieces of plexi-glass are then painted after
the image is transferred with a gesso and assembled with the aforementioned
aluminum bolts and spacers.
